Christmas Tree

Happy Holidays!

Our latest Craigslist find….a small Christmas tree! It never ceases to amaze me to see the things people give away. All of the lights even worked!

Here’s the new tree sitting on our shabby chic table!

Evan has this uncanny ability to get exactly what he’s looking for on Craigslist.  It may not always be free, but it usually appears within 2 weeks of him saying it out loud.  A few weeks ago we were discussing the pros and cons of Christmas decorations. Specifically, lights. White or multi?  Old fashioned bulbs or LED?  Too many or too little? Flashing or constant? Outside displays: house lights, wreaths, bushes, or small trees on porches?

“I’d really like to get a small tree for the front porch”, he says.

“Maybe, we can look after Christmas on sale”, I say.

“Nah, we’ll just see if it comes up some place,” was his reply.

Fast forward to December 23rd

I’m sitting in my office and I hear the basement door slam followed by a “Want to see my Craigslist finds?”.

My inner voice says “here we go again! What will it be and how much work has to been done to fix it”.  Knowing that we have a million and one projects going on in the house, I pop up from my chair and yell “SURE!”.

And there she sits. A slightly worse for wear, smooshed Christmas tree with about 6 ornaments and some lights.  The ornaments aren’t even on the tree and the lights may or may not work.

You’ve got to be kidding me! Exactly what Evan was looking for.  A 3 foot tree that sits in a planter.  The planter has been filled with concrete – someone’s DIY project.  The lights work and the tree isn’t bad once it is fluffed out and re-shaped. A little Windex and a vacuum (lots of fallen “needles’) and it’s as good as new or as good as almost-new.

Since we have no room or actual room ready for our full size tree, this will have to do for 2018.  So here it sits in all of its Instagram filtered glory!  So peaceful and so humble.  A tree given a new home and playing center stage as our Christmas tree this year.  Next year, it may be outside, but this year it is in a place of honor.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Holiday Season and a Very Merry Christmas!
